Fatima Dunn is a freelance Swiss composer for film and radio drama. She earned a Master’s degree in Composition for Film, Theatre, and Media at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). Through her distinctive combination of cello, voice, loop station, electronic sound textures, diverse instrumentation, and collaborations with a wide range of musicians, she creates powerful, atmospherically rich sound worlds.
She composes for feature films, documentaries, and radio drama, including several SRF DOK productions as well as award-winning films and audio plays. For the feature film Soul of a Beast (directed by Lorenz Merz), she received the 2022 Swiss Film Award for Best Film Score. She was previously honored with the Prix Europa for the ORF radio drama Höllenkinder.
Dunn’s compositional approach is intuitive, sensual, and exploratory. She enjoys drawing inspiration from the script at an early stage in order to capture the sonic and narrative dimensions of a project musically. She works from the sound material of individual instruments, developing structures that carry mood, movement, and atmosphere.
In addition to film and radio music, she composes, arranges, and produces songs for her own projects and has many years of experience as a bandleader (Coldeve), as well as extensive stage and studio experience. Her musical work spans a wide range of styles—from classical to pop, rock, and electronic—and she has access to a large network of musicians and sound engineers for the realization of individual projects.

Fatima Dunn ist eine freischaffende Schweizer Komponistin für Film und Hörspiel. Sie hat an der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (ZHdK) einen Master in Komposition für Film, Theater und Medien erworben. Mit ihrer charakteristischen Verbindung von Cello, Gesang, Loopstation, elektronischen Klangtexturen, vielfältigen Instrumentationen und der Zusammenarbeit mit unterschiedlichen Musiker:innen erschafft sie eindringliche, atmosphärisch dichte Klangwelten.
Sie komponiert für Kino- und Dokumentarfilme und Hörspiel, darunter mehrere SRF-DOK-Produktionen sowie prämierte Kinofilme und Hörspiele. Für den Spielfilm Soul of a Beast (Regie: Lorenz Merz) erhielt sie 2022 den Schweizer Filmpreis in der Kategorie „Beste Filmmusik“. Bereits zuvor wurde sie mit dem Prix Europa für das ORF-Hörspiel Höllenkinder ausgezeichnet.
Dunns kompositorischer Ansatz ist intuitiv, sinnlich und forschend. Gerne lässt sie sich bereits vom Drehbuch oder Skript inspirieren, um die klangliche und erzählerische Dimension eines Projekts musikalisch zu erfassen. Sie arbeitet aus dem Klangmaterial einzelner Instrumente heraus und entwickelt daraus Strukturen, die Stimmung, Bewegung und Atmosphäre tragen.
Neben der Film- und Hörspielmmusik komponiert, arrangiert und produziert sie Songs für eigene Projekte und verfügt über langjährige Erfahrung als Bandleaderin (Coldeve) sowie umfassende Bühnen- und Studioerfahrung. Ihre musikalische Arbeit umfasst vielfältige Stile – von Klassik über Pop und Rock bis zu elektronischen Formaten – und für die Umsetzung individueller Projekte steht ihr ein großes Netzwerk von Musiker:innen und Tontechniker:innen zur Verfügung.
